Matthew Garrett
(Writer/Director/Producer)
Born in 1979, New Jersey native Matthew Garrett had an interest in storytelling from an early age. In 1998 Matt moved to New York to attend the School of Visual Arts film program, eventually focusing on screenwriting. In 1999, Matt had the opportunity to intern with Troma Entertainment and was eventually commissioned to write material for their feature film Citizen Toxie: The Toxic Avenger part 4. By 2002, Matt directed numerous short films as well as a feature-length documentary under his Production Company moniker, Reluctant Pictures.
Upon graduation, Matt was presented with the Rhodes Family Award for Outstanding Achievement in Film/Video, one of four recipients in his class.
In the summer of 2005, armed with a small crew, little equipment and a talented cast of unknowns, Matt directed Ellie, his first serious dramatic work. Soon after, he set to work on the screenplays for two more short films, each featuring tortured souls at a different stage of life. “At the end of the day, these little films are nothing more than my feeble attempt to dissect and understand the human condition.” With the second film in post-production and the third scheduled to shoot this fall, the feature-length trilogy (currently titled Morris County) should be hitting the festival circuit in early 2008.
